Biography
Bibi R began studying the piano as a child with her mother, who is also a professional pianist. From the age of 12, Bibi was offered a place at Wells Cathedral School, under a full specialist music scholarship, studying with Olena Shvetsova. Shortly after she gained her ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction aged 12. During her 6 years at Wells, Bibi took piano Masterclasses with Ruth Gerald, Michael Young, Vanessa Latarche, Christopher Elton, Ian Fountain, and performed regularly at Quilter Hall and Cedar’s Hall, as well as playing outreach concerts in Residential Homes and house concerts.
She has consistently won unanimous first prizes at Mid-Somerset Festival, Longwell Green Festival, (2018-24), Newport Virtuosi (Rhode Island U.S.A, 2020,2022) and won first prize in the Grand Prize Virtuosi Competition, resulting in a solo performance in the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 2022.
Most recently in March 2024, Bibi won the Taunton Young Musician Competition, performing Haydn’s D Major Piano Concerto with the Taunton Sinfonietta on December 1st 2024.
She is currently in her 2nd year at the Royal College of Music, continuing her studies under the tutelage of Professor Gordon Fergus-Thompson. Bibi enjoys all genres of music but is particularly fond of works by Debussy and Ravel.
Alongside her performing career, Bibi is a dedicated and enthusiastic piano teacher. She aims to create a positive, supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged, motivated, and confident in their musical development. Whether teaching beginners or more advanced pupils, she focuses on building strong technical foundations, musical understanding, and a genuine love for music, tailoring each lesson to the individual needs and goals of her students.
